Ryan Moore 'very happy' with 1-10 win for star stayer Order Of St George
Order Of St George completed a hat-trick in his traditional Gold Cup warm-up with a workmanlike success at Leopardstown.
The top-class stayer had won this Listed race at 4-11 and 2-7 in the previous two years and started 1-10 favourite this time.
Leopardstown results and analysis
Those who took the short odds did not have many anxious moments as he tracked the pace under Ryan Moore before easing to the front approaching the straight.
He always looked set to hold off runner-up Twilight Payment thereafter and he passed the post three-quarters of a length clear.
Moore said: "I was very happy with him. He's a beautiful horse and I couldn't have been happier with what he did there.
"He was spot on and we can look forward to Ascot now. He's been there and done it and I wouldn't swap."
Victory was the 13th of the Aidan O'Brien-trained Order Of St George's career and took his earnings to just short of £2million.
He remains Paddy Power's 9-4 favourite for the Gold Cup, which he won in 2016 but in which he was beaten by Big Orange last year.
