Multiple Cheltenham Festival-winning owner Philip Reynolds has revealed that he severed ties with long-standing ally Pat Kelly in a bid to keep the Gold Cup dream alive for horse of a lifetime Presenting Percy.

Reynolds was lifting the lid for the first time on the emotional wrangle he faced when ending a 20-year relationship with Kelly this summer by sending Presenting Percy to Gordon Elliott, but justified the decision by explaining that he felt he was doing the right thing by the horse.

Presenting Percy won ten races for Kelly, including the Pertemps Final and the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, but flopped when sent off favourite for the 2019 Gold Cup and had gone almost two years without a win before scoring second time up for Elliott at Thurles last month.
