Paddy Brennan to miss remainder of the Cheltenham Festival
Paddy Brennan, who enjoyed arguably the finest moment of his career when winning the 2010 Cheltenham Gold Cup on Imperial Commander, is out of this year's festival after failing to recover from an ankle injury following a fall in on Jarveys Plate.
Brennan took himself off his rides at Cheltenham on Wednesday to have some physiotherapy, which he hoped would allow him to ride on Thursday and Friday.
However, that was not the case and he was replaced by Jonjo O'Neill jnr on Ask Dillon in the Paddy Power Stayers' Hurdle (3.30) on Thursday, while Jamie Moore takes over on Gino Trail in Friday's Johnny Henderson Grand Annual (4.50).
The 38-year-old Brennan, who also landed the 2009 Ryanair on Imperial Commander, is among the jump weighing room's most experienced and familiar faces and has ridden 51 winners in Britain this season.
He is associated with the Gloucestershire yard of Fergal O'Brien, who trains Jarveys Plate, Ask Dillon and Gino Trail.
"Paddy will be out for the rest of the week, then he'll reassess," said O'Brien. "It's nothing serious and he won't be out for long."
