This is my final column of 2017 before I hand over to Sam Twiston-Davies for the winter, so it’s time to look back on the year and assess how we’ve done.

The main target was to reach 50 winners, and I'm happy to report we comfortably achieved that in mid-September.

At the start of the year I felt we had a good bunch of handicappers who were capable of winning races, and was thrilled to get multiple wins out of Goodwood Crusader [five], Believe It [four], Jashma [three] and Twenty Times [two].
