You know something is a serious matter when a minister is losing their job because of it.

The treatment of staff has been big news in the last seven days, not only because of the resignation of Britain’s deputy prime minister Dominic Raab after two complaints of bullying against him were upheld by an independent review, but also due to the shocking behaviour of trainer Robyn Brisland and William Degnan.

Raab, whose constituency includes Sandown racecourse, was found to have “misused and abused” power and acted in an “intimidating” and “aggressive” way when dealing with members of the civil service.
