Prospect of racehorse owners pulling the plug is seriously worrying

Last weekend horseracing handed itself a £22 million lifeline to sustain vital aspects of the sport while the industry is hamstrung by the coronavirus pandemic.

Having been asked for help by racing, the Levy Board and Racing Foundation dug deep and presented money to racecourses, charities, jockeys and employers, as well as establishing a horse welfare fund.

Good news, you may say, that British racing as an industry can call upon these institutions to help when times are tough, particularly if the funding package presented by the BHA to government is unable to tease the further £15m in aid requested for the sport.
