Peter Scargill: it's not just the usual suspects who are making an impact

John Gosden has had a good start to things since racing resumed last week, so has Mark Johnston and Andrew Balding, for that matter. Richard Hannon has banged in a few winners too and there’s no stopping Aidan O’Brien in Ireland.

Such is the way it has always been and, as ever, tremendous credit has to go to those trainers, their jockeys and the staff who have contributed to the stack of winners each big yard has sent out since June 1.

However, success has not been restricted to the usual suspects and engaging racing’s current audience and prospective new followers with the breadth and variety on offer in British and Irish racing can only be a good thing in the long run, especially at the moment.
