Star names are essential to the success of Longines Irish Champions Weekend, and news in recent days that Little Big Bear and Baaeed will miss the meeting are a significant blow to the marquee fixtures.

Just as two star performers stepped out of contention, though, another massive figure in Stradivarius emerged as a contender for the Comer Group International Irish St Leger.

A tilt at the Group 2 Doncaster Cup on September 9 is still being discussed, but it's undoubtedly sporting that Bjorn Nielsen is considering a €50,000 supplementation to the Curragh race.
