The New One is gunning for an unprecedented fourth win in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham next Saturday and I want to be on his back.

Unfortunately, it’s not quite as straightforward as that. My surgeon has told me I can ride again on Monday week – two days after the International – but surely if I can prove that I have healed well, what difference will a couple of days make?

I realise I am going to upset a lot of people in trying to achieve my aim, including my physio Emma Edwards at Oaksey House, but The New One is a once-in-a-lifetime horse.
