Depending on the reader's vintage, one need only mention Wayward Lad, Florida Pearl or Maljimar to invoke one of jumps racing's most oft-cited truisms: you have got to get up that hill.

Most of us will do an inordinate amount of our betting at Cheltenham over the winter. For the recreational bettor, these are the horses they know. But even discerning punters know these are the horses and races that are the most trustworthy.

The November meeting, which is now due to start on Saturday after the cancellation of Friday's opening day due to waterlogging, is perhaps the biggest jumps fixture in Britain this side of the Cheltenham Festival itself.
