What will she do this time? The scorch marks in the Ascot turf have only just greened over, but the impression on the mind will never fade. Lady Aurelia is back in town.

Not for Friday's Nunthorpe Stakes – now that would be compelling viewing, getting almost 2st from Limato and Profitable – but for Sunday's Prix Morny at Deauville against her own age group. If she can reproduce the level of her Queen Mary Stakes form, it won't even be a fair fight.

What the filly did at Ascot was out of the ordinary, in the same way that Usain Bolt, or smallpox, is out of the ordinary. Seasoned hacks who thought they might have seen it all before were left to conclude that perhaps they ain't seen nothin' yet as, on easy-ish ground that was not thought to be in her favour, she beat the opposition out of sight, and Lasix-free to boot. The visual impression was enough, but then the number-crunchers put flesh on the bones by confirming she had earned a Racing Post Rating of 123, something that two-year-olds don't tend to register in June, or any month, really.
