One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

Trainer

Richard Hannon has always been strongest with his two-year-olds and that statistic will play right into his hands on Saturday at Newmarket's Cambridgeshire meeting.

Six of the seven races on offer are exclusive to juveniles and Hannon sends four to contest the fixture, headlined by Group 1 hopefuls Trillium in the Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes (2.25) and Persian Force in the Juddmonte Middle Park Stakes (3.00).

The Wiltshire trainer's focus will not solely be on Newmarket, however, with eight other entries across the cards at Chester, Haydock and a rare runner at the Curragh, where Magical Sunset bids to land the Goffs Million under Chris Hayes (3.20).

Jockey

Clifford Lee is on the cusp of securing his best-ever season and three promising rides on Saturday could push him over the threshold.

The 26-year-old jockey is just one away from hitting last year's record of 59 winners and the weekend could usher in another memorable milestone as he bids for his first Group 1 success.

Lee carries live chances in both of Newmarket's top-level contests on Saturday, with Lowther Stakes winner Swingalong vying for the Cheveley Park for Karl Burke's yard. The jockey and trainer again team up with Marshman for the Middle Park, with the Gimcrack runner-up leading the market for the six-furlong contest.

Lee ends his week on the George Boughey-trained debutante Angel De Luz in the fillies' maiden (4.15).

Horse

While Marshman may head proceedings in for the Middle Park Stakes, attention will likely be drawn to Blackbeard, the striking Ballydoyle colt on the hunt for his second consecutive Group 1 success.

The son of No Nay Never has grown in popularity due to his exuberant pre-race antics, with the Prix Morny winner prone to leaping and extending his front legs before loading in the stalls. Thankfully for Ryan Moore, Blackbeard turns on the professionalism out the gates and has scored on his last two runs in France.

Blackbeard now makes his first start in Britain since Royal Ascot, where he finished fourth when sent off favourite for the Coventry. He returns a much-improved horse, and O'Brien will be eager to land his first Middle Park since 2018.

Race

Despite two Group 1 contests at Newmarket, it is the bet365 Cambridgeshire Handicap (3.40) which is the pick of the day's action.

£200,000 is on offer and 29 runners could line up, a stark contrast Newmarket's opening four-runner affair in the Juddmonte Royal Lodge Stakes (1.50).

The Cambridgeshire is also a fascinating betting prospect. The last two winners of the 1m1f race struck at 40-1, but William Haggas will be hoping the market is a better guide this year as he saddles the well-fancied Protagonist and Mujtaba.
