One jockey, one trainer, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

Jockey

All eyes will be on Jim Crowley as he rides Baaeed in the Al Shaqab Lockinge Stakes (3.20) at Newbury on Saturday. The four-year-old is unbeaten in six starts and finished last season with victory over Palace Pier in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. He is favourite to maintain his flawless record.

The jockey has a few leading chances before that too. In the Al Rayyan Stakes (2.10), the other Group race on the card, he will line up on Eshaada who took top-level honours at Ascot in October. She also won at this fixture 12 months ago.

BetVictor Carnarvon Stakes (1.35) mount Ehraz is considered as he is dropped into Listed company, while Israr looks to fit the right profile in the BetVictor London Gold Cup Handicap (2.45).

More will be discovered of Ribblesdale entry Mukaddamah in the Listed Haras De Bouquetot Fillies' Trial Stakes (4.30) and an excellent book of rides is completed by Muraad (5.04).

Trainer

Aidan O'Brien has firmly developed a strong hand in the Derby and Oaks in the last two weeks, but on Saturday a few Royal Ascot contenders could emerge.

Mother Earth has already showcased her talents and last season's 1,000 Guineas winner goes in search of a third Group 1 success as she takes her place in the Lockinge (3.20). She comes here with the benefit of race fitness following victory at the Curragh last time out.

O'Brien also sends Cadamosto to the Berkshire track for the Carnarvon Stakes (1.35) where he could emerge as a Commonwealth Cup contender. Newcomer Sierra Blanca is also an interesting runner in the BetVictor Conditions Stakes (3.55) and boasts a brilliant pedigree being out of Oaks winner Alexandrova.

The Ballydoyle trainer is busy at Navan too, as he seeks a fourth consecutive success in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Yeats Stakes (4.25). Arbutus left a good impression when victorious over the course and distance on debut and is fancied, while Shark Bay also lines up.

Elsewhere, €620,000 yearling buy Broadhurst makes his debut at 2.05 and Cougar and Newfoundland look to take the required step forward to warrant their Irish Derby entries (5.35).

Horse

Alcohol Free was an impressive winner in the Sussex Stakes last season and is perhaps the one being overlooked in a classy line-up for the Lockinge. The Andrew Balding-trained filly struck in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes last season and was promising on her seasonal return at Sandown.

The daughter of No Nay Never should step forward from that effort and represents a huge ride for jockey Rob Hornby. While she goes for a fourth Group 1 victory, he is seeking his second.

Race

If you are looking to discover a future star to follow for the rest of the season then keep your eyes on the London Gold Cup (2.45).

Cannock Chase, Time Test, Defoe and Communique scored here before going on to bigger things while Prince Of Arran, Hillstar and Thomas Chippendale highlight why it worth closely looking at the beaten runners too.

Israr looks the likely favourite for the powerful John and Thady Gosden stable. The son of Taghrooda was promising when third last time at Newmarket. Recent winners Surrey Mist and Red Vineyard are feared while Inverness could be one to watch.
