Geraghty set to return in three weeks despite Killarney fracture

Turf Club chief medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick believes Barry Geraghty should be back within the next three weeks after it was revealed the rider sustained a hairline fracture to his shoulder in a final-flight fall at Killarney last week.

The 37-year-old has endured a torrid time with injuries of late. He fractured ribs and suffered a collapsed lung in a fall at Kempton in February before fracturing his left arm in a fall from Minella Foru in the Irish Grand National, just a fortnight after his return.

Geraghty returned from that injury at Ballybrit last month, when he won his first Galway Hurdle on Tigris River for Joseph O’Brien and his boss JP McManus.

'He's in great form'

Despite this latest setback, McGoldrick revealed the rider remains in good spirits. He said: “I spoke to Barry this morning and he's in great form. He has a hairline fracture on his right scapula but he should be able to make his return within the next three weeks.”

Barry Browne is another rider who is nursing a shoulder injury and McGoldrick revealed he too should be back before long.

He added: “Barry Browne fractured his acromion at Tramore and he is looking at around three weeks before he will be back as well."
