Mouse Morris urges racing to support air ambulance after gallops accident
Gold Cup and Grand National-winning trainer Mouse Morris has urged the racing community to support the Irish Community Air Ambulance after a stable employee had to be airlifted from his Tipperary base to Cork University Hospital on Thursday following a fall on the gallops.
It is not the first time the air ambulance has been needed in racing. In 2019 David Mullins, who partnered Morris's Rule The World to Grand National glory in 2016, suffered a crashing fall at Thurles and also needed to be airlifted to Cork University Hospital.
The air mbulance survives almost entirely on donations and Morris is hoping the accident that took place at his base on Thursday can generate some much-needed awareness about the service.
He said: “Unfortunately, a girl had a fall and she needed the flight down to Cork University Hospital. But for the air ambulance, she would have been in a lot more pain. It was an airlift job, so we’re very grateful they arrived.”
He added: “They were brilliant. The air ambulance arrived within 20 minutes of us calling for them. An ambulance also came out from Thurles. They were great.”
The Jockeys Emergency Fund (JEF) made a €50,000 donation to the air ambulance Service in recognition of the work the air ambulance does for racing and the wider community earlier this year.
Morris is hoping more support can be generated for the service. He said: “There will be a link on my Facebook and Twitter page. It’s a hugely important service and they need every euro they can get. They are very reliant on donations and, if we can do anything to help, we’d love to try to do something.”
