Martin Harley globetrotting again as he heads off for winter stint in Australia

Globetrotter Martin Harley is not resting on his laurels despite returning to Britain from Hong Kong only recently as he has accepted an opportunity to ride in Australia this winter.

The 30-year-old spent last winter in Hong Kong, where he rode four winners and plenty of placed horses in an initial three-month stint that was extended to six.

The Group 1-winning jockey has been riding out for John Gosden since returning from Hong Kong but has no plans to ride here this summer and flies out to Melbourne on Wednesday.

Harley, who was champion apprentice in 2011, is to link up with multiple Group 1 winning trainer Ciaron Maher and is hoping to ride at the Melbourne Spring Carnival.

Harley said: "It was my first spell out in Hong Kong and I had a great time and I'm sure the experience will stand me in good stead. I came home in June and spent some time with my family in Northern Ireland and recently have been riding out for Mr Gosden.

"Obviously, the yard is flying at the moment and that has also been a great experience and it has helped me get in trim for my new opportunity in Australia."

On his new opening down under, he added: "I plan to fly out on Wednesday to take up the opportunity with Mr Maher and I will be effectively riding as a freelance. There's a lot of racing and lots of horses running at the Spring Carnival out there and I'm looking forward to broadening my experience further."
