The plan was unveiled on Wednesday, signalling racing's attempt to reach new, culturally and ethnically diverse audiences via tailored marketing and promotion initiatives.

And it was given a thumbs up by Stonewall, the largest LGBT rights organisation in Europe.

Kirsty Clarke, Stonewall director of sport, said: "Sport is one area where lesbian, gay, bi and trans people often feel unwelcome, or even excluded, not only as participants but even cheering in the crowds.

"It’s extremely important that we kick discrimination out of sport – and it’s fantastic to see sporting organisations like the BHA actively tackling the issue."

She added: "We’re working with organisations as part of our Rainbow Laces campaign to ensure all lesbian, gay, bi and trans people can be accepted without exception, in all sports and we look forward to engaging with the BHA as part of this work."
