Saturday's Leicester card latest weather casualty because of waterlogging

The wet weather continues to cause chaos to Britain's racing programme with Leicester calling off its evening meeting on Saturday.

That follows the loss of Worcester's card on Saturday after the River Severn burst its banks and flooded the track. Friday's meetings at Chepstow and Newton Abbot were also lost.

Leicester has had 111mm of rain in six days and is waterlogged in some areas with false ground in others.

Worcester's proximity to the River Severn leaves it vulnerable and the course tweeted on Friday morning: "The track is no longer raceable with flood water standing in multiple areas. The river level is also still rising.

"Please let everyone know, we are gutted about this but hoping the weather improves for our next fixture on Sunday 23 June."

Chepstow clerk of the course Libby O’Flaherty said on Friday: "It's bad news here at Chepstow as unfortunately we have had to abandon. We have had 32mm of rain in the last 24 hours with a further 10 to 20mm forecast before racing. It's June but more like jump racing weather today.
