The Evening Punt: Tom Collins' free horse racing tips for Tuesday
BANKER
Panko (7.00 Southwell)
I was surprised to see the Alex Hales-trained Panko sitting second in the market for this uncompetitive 2m hurdle, although the bookmakers are clearly worried about a Dan and Harry Skelton show tonight at Southwell and have priced Illustrissime accordingly. Panko, who was rated 83 on the Flat (1lb higher than his main rival tonight), boasts some pretty useful novice hurdle form in five attempts in this sphere, including when running out a seven-length winner at Huntingdon on his penultimate outing. He recorded an RPR of 120 that day and although he didn't reproduce it in a better race at Newton Abbot last month, his experience can hold him in good stead in what is a match race.
EYECATCHER
There isn't much depth in this 1m6f handicap but there looks to be plenty who like to go forward, which should set it up for Hughie Morrison's Affair. This five-year-old mare is far from prolific (4-32), but has recorded all four of her victories off marks between 49 and 52 and she is back down to the latter rating following a string of defeats that stretches back to November. She ran a promising race when fourth on reappearance this season, before pulling too hard over 2m when last seen. This is her ideal trip, the race should be run to suit and she can go one better than when second in this contest last year.
