Runners and riders for the Prix Jacques le Marois on Sunday as ground goes heavy
Palace Pier heads the seven-strong field for the Prix Jacques le Marois on Sunday with Frankie Dettori set to ride despite the introduction of a 14-day quarantine spell for those returning to Britain from France.
The John Gosden-trained colt, winner of the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot in June, will bid to emulate his sire Kingman who was a brilliant winner of this race for the trainer in 2014.
Palace Pier faces a strong Irish challenge headed by last year's winner Romanised, Queen Anne hero Circus Maximus and Coronation Stakes scorer Alpine Star. Circus Maximus will be partnered by Christophe Soumillon and not William Buick, who was in line to replace the suspended Ryan Moore.
Jessica Harrington's exciting filly Alpine Star, second in the French Oaks last time, will attempt to follow in the footsteps of Alpha Centauri, an exceptional winner of the mile contest in 2018.
The Andre Fabre-trained Persian King, who struck in last year's French 2,000 Guineas and this season's Prix D'Ispahan, heads the three-strong French challenge. Pretreville and Restiany complete the line up.
A total of 64mm of rain in 24 hours to Friday morning has turned the ground heavy.
