One trainer, one jockey, one horse and one race to watch on Saturday

One trainer

Paul Nicholls holds a strong hand throughout the Kempton card, including in the Grade 2 Close Brothers Pendil Novices' Chase (1.50) with Tamaroc Du Mathan, second to Shishkin at Kempton last time.

He also trains Atholl Street, the likely favourite for the Grade 2 Sky Bet Dovecote Novices' Hurdle (3.00). The promising six-year-old won his two hurdle starts at Taunton by a combined 20 lengths.

Popular chaser Black Corton is also in action and bids to bounce back in the Close Brothers Handicap Chase (3.35) under Bryony Frost.

One jockey

Harry Skelton has been in remarkable form and, after recording a treble at Ascot on Saturday, he has a good chance of more big-race success with Calico among the leading fancies for the Dovecote.

The five-year-old won on his first start for Dan Skelton at Ludlow in January, having been trained by German Flat trainer Peter Schiergen.

Skelton, who is snapping at the heels of Brian Hughes at the top of the jockeys' championship, has a number of rides at Kempton that includes stable debutant Encore Champs.

One horse

Anibale Fly, who was second in the 2019 Gold Cup before finishing fifth in the Grand National, makes his first start of the season in the Bobbyjo Chase (2.52), one of three Graded races at Fairyhouse.

Things did not go to plan for him last season but he showed signs of resurgence when third in a Naas handicap hurdle in March.

This is unlikely to be an easy assignment against the Willie Mullins-trained duo of Acapella Bourgeois and Burrows Saint, The Long Mile and Tout Est Permis, last seen running in the Thyestes Chase.

One race

Newcastle stage their showpiece jumps event, the Vertem Eider Handicap Chase (3.15). The marathon contest has attracted a typically competitive field, which is narrowly headed by the Brian Ellison-trained Sam's Adventure.

Crosspark is back for Caroline Bailey after an impressive victory in the race last year, while 11-year-old Big River is also prominent in the market.
