One horse, one jockey, one trainer and one race to watch at Newbury on Friday

Horse

Stayers' Hurdle hero Paisley Park returns to action in a small but select field for the Ladbrokes Long Distance Hurdle (3.00).

The Emma Lavelle-trained seven-year-old, owned by Andrew Gemmell, was unbeaten in five starts last season, culminating in Cheltenham Festival glory in March.

Aidan Coleman's mount faces no easy task on his return with three former Long Distance Hurdle winners – two-time scorer Unowhatimeanharry, Thistlecrack and Beer Goggles – and The Worlds End, who impressed on his return when beating Unowhatimeanharry at Wetherby, completing the five-runner field.

Jockey

Any day when Kalashnikov (1.50) is in action is a big one for Jack Quinlan and they have excellent claims of returning to winning ways in the 2m4f handicap chase.

Amy Murphy's stable star ran a fine race on his return when second to Forest Bihan at Aintree and takes a notable drop in grade at a track where he landed the Betfair Hurdle on his previous visit last year.

A big run can be expected while Quinlan's other mount on the card, the consistent Potters Hedger, could run well off a low weight in the concluding 3m handicap hurdle.

Trainer

Stable stalwart Unowhatimeanharry bids for a third Long Distance Hurdle success for Harry Fry, but there will also be plenty of interest in the Dorset trainer's other two runners on the card.

King Roland (12.15) looked a particularly smart prospect when winning two bumpers last year and makes his hurdling debut in the opening 2m½f maiden hurdle. It is a race with a rich honour roll with Bellvano, Puffin Billy, Buveur D'Air and Lostintranslation among the previous winners in the last decade.

Fry also runs the lightly-raced As You See It (3.35), who defied a 552-day layoff to win on his return at Exeter last month, in the concluding 3m handicap hurdle.

Race

The exciting Champ (2.25) returns to Newbury for his second chase start in the Grade 2 event over 2m4f following a winning debut over fences at the track last month.

Black Op, Vision Des Flos and the reopposing Dashel Drasher – second to Champ last time despite losing both fore shoes – are other good chasing prospects in the six-runner line-up.

One of four races shown on ITV4, it is another contest with an impressive list of former winners, including Bobs Worth, Coneygree, Clan Des Obeaux and La Bague Au Roi.
