No fear: Judicial team happy to take on rampant Battaash at York

It takes more than the sight of the quickest racehorse in the world to frighten off a Yorkshireman and Judicial remains on course for the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes.

Battaash is a best-priced 11-10 favourite for the Group 1 sprint after his blistering victory in the King George Stakes at Goodwood last week.

But the Julie Camacho-trained Judicial, a Group 3 winner at Sandown last month, will take him on at York a fortnight on Friday, hoping to take advantage should the favourite's well-publicised behaviour issues resurface.

"Obviously Battaash was fairly awesome and at his best, as we saw last year in the same Goodwood race and when he won the Abbaye, he's a super, super horse and one to enjoy so we need to be realistic and acknowledge that," said Camacho's husband Steve Brown on Monday.

"You never want it to go wrong for people but it didn't quite work out for him at York last year so we have some sort of chance if he doesn't behave quite as well as he might.

"We'll do our best to try to give him a run for his money. At the minute we're a few pounds short of being up to winning a race of this nature but you have to have a go."

Judicial is reported in good shape, having been forced to miss an intended engagement in Ireland last month after a pre-race check showed a minor problem.

"He's in good form and he worked well on Saturday," reported Brown. "He was in at Chester last Sunday but we decided to go to the Nunthorpe fresh.

"He likes being fresh and we felt there wasn't too much to gain running him in a Listed race, having won a Group 3 last time. We thought we should be looking upwards rather than sideways or downwards."

Windsor Castle Stakes winner Soldier's Call looks unlikely to bid to become the first two-year-old to land the Nunthorpe since Kingsgate Native in 2007.

He could finish only third behind Rumble Inthejungle in the Molecomb Stakes at Goodwood, where he was bumped at the start, and trainer Archie Watson said: "It's not definitely ruled out but I'd imagine we'd be more likely to go somewhere else.

"There are other options and we'll make a call closer to the time. It's important to try to make him a Group winner as a two-year-old.

"I'm sure the Goodwood winner is a very good horse but it was a bit frustrating last week – I've always thought that in five-furlong races, especially there, that nothing can go wrong and I don't think any less of him after that."
