Martyn Meade is relishing the prospect of running his July Stakes winner Advertise over seven furlongs as he plots out a Group 1 future for his new stable star but that will not be on his next outing.

The Manton trainer is planning to keep the Showcasing colt to six furlongs in the Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on August 12.

Advertise will be trying to break an Irish stranglehold on the Group 1, with Mark Johnston the last successful trainer from Britain with Princely Heir in 1997.

Aidan O'Brien has dominated it, saddling eight of the last ten winners.

Meade said on Sunday: "He's such a lovely horse I don't want to overdo him ahead of his three-year-old career.

"Newmarket didn't take much out of him – I could have run him straight back at Goodwood, he's taken the race so well, but the Phoenix looks the probable target.

"I want to step him up to seven as soon as possible but I think we'll wait for the Dewhurst to do that. He has speed for six at the moment and it's a stiff six at the Curragh as well.

"I think next year he'd get a mile – it's right on the edge of his pedigree."

Meade is also ready to change distance for his 2017 Craven winner Eminent, whose last win came over ten furlongs in Group 2 company at Deauville.

The trainer was heartened by the Ascot effort of Eminent, beaten four lengths behind Beat The Bank after a far from clear run in the Group 2 Summer Mile on Saturday.

"I think he's improved 10lb from Royal Ascot and has proved a mile isn't his distance," he said.

"He ran really well in the Derby but his win over a mile and a quarter at Deauville made us think that was his optimum distance, but he'll go back over a mile and a half at Goodwood now."
