Kevin Frost hoping for healthier future after completing Nottinghamshire move

Upcoming trainer Kevin Frost is hoping for a healthy end to 2020 after recently relocating to Danethorpe Stables in Nottinghamshire, the former home to Mick Appleby.

Frost, who had his best season in 2019, was formerly based on the other side of the Midlands close to the M6 motorway near Newcastle-under-Lyme where his string often had respiratory problems.

He said: "Hopefully the horses stay healthy as at our old place they suffered with the pollen from the poplar trees that were either side of our very long drive into the place. We ended up losing most of the summer because of it and coming back strong in the autumn and winter."

A former assistant to Ian Williams, Frost has 25 horses including smart handicapper Documenting at his disposal and is hoping to add a few more to a premises that has capacity for 70.

He said: "We had our best season last year but you can't stand still in this game and the new premises are amazing with an indoor ride, equine pool and a mile-and-a-half gallop none of which we had before.

"The yard is well positioned too as it's only five minutes to the A1 or the M1 and gives us more options for the horses, whereas before we were a bit one-dimensional as Wolverhampton was just down the road."

Sir Peter O'Sullevan award lunch cancelled

The Sir Peter O'Sullevan award lunch in 2020 has been cancelled, with fears the event will not be able to meet adequate social-distancing requirements.

The award, from the Sir Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, celebrates individual's lifetime achievement in horseracing and last year Brough Scott was named the 22nd winner of the prize.

The event was scheduled for the Dorchester hotel on November 21 and will not be rearranged this year.

On behalf of the Trust, Nigel Payne said: “We regularly have over 500 guests and we have been advised that social distancing of some sort will almost certainly still be in place in November, which tells us all we needed to know."

The lunch has been confirmed for November 25 in 2021.
