Josh Moore has surgery on broken leg suffered in Haydock fall

Josh Moore was on Monday recovering from surgery on a broken leg suffered in a heavy fall at Haydock on Saturday.

The 30-year-old jockey also sustained broken ribs, a punctured lung and damage to his back following Gleno's fall at the sixth fence in the veterans' chase.

Having been taken to Aintree Hospital, Moore was moved to intensive care on Sunday due to a rare reaction while under sedation, but the operation was able to go ahead on Monday.

Speaking on Monday afternoon, the jockey's sister Hayley Moore said: "He's had the operation on his leg and there are no complications and they are happy with it. We're just waiting for him to come round."

Moore has had terrible luck with injuries and was forced to miss a large part of the season with a serious back injury.

He required spinal surgery following a fall at Plumpton in October, which was delayed for six consecutive days due to other medical emergencies during the Covid crisis.

Having eventually undergone a six-hour operation, he had screws and rods inserted into his back after fracturing his T4 and T5 vertebrae.

Moore returned to action at the end of January with his first ride back on Gleno at Doncaster and the following month won the Grade 2 National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell on Botox Has, the horse he suffered the Plumpton fall on.

Prior to his spinal injury, Moore was forced to miss much of the summer in 2021 due to concussion. Gleno, who is trained by Moore's father Gary, was reported to be fine following the fall at Haydock.
