Group 1 winner Skitter Scatter retired after sustaining injury in Matron Stakes

Group 1 winner Skitter Scatter, who enjoyed her finest moment when winning last year's Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes, has been retired after suffering a recurrence of the muscle injury she sustained in the Qipco 1,000 Guineas in May.

Trainer John Oxx broke the news at the Curragh on Sunday after the filly had finished last of seven behind Iridessa in the Matron Stakes.

Oxx said of the daughter of Scat Daddy: "Unfortunately Skitter Scatter has been retired and will be going to her owners, Anthony and Sonia Rogers [at Airlie Stud].

"It took plenty of time to get her back on track after the injury she picked up at Newmarket. We were happy with her run in the Fairy Bridge Stakes at Tipperary last month when she finished second but she wasn't right when she came in after the Matron and it is the same problem she had after the Guineas.

"It's a pity as she showed us that she still had all her ability and enthusiasm. As a Group 1 winner who also won at Group 2 and Group 3 level, she had a good career but it could have been better but for injury. She has a very good pedigree and should do well as a broodmare."

Skitter Scatter, trained by Patrick Prendergast last year, won four of her ten races, landing the Group 3 Silver Flash Stakes at Leopardstown and the Debutante Stakes at the Curragh before winning the Moyglare.

She defeated Lady Kaya and Hermosa to claim the top-level prize and those two fillies would go on to finish first and second in the 1,000 Guineas.
