Goodwood's Friday card will be first in Britain with races only for apprentices
Epsom is sure to dominate racing's headlines on Friday, but Goodwood will be the track making a piece of history when staging Britain's first meeting filled solely with races for apprentice jockeys.
The evening fixture has been framed in an effort to raise the profile of apprentices by giving the weighing room's youngest members the chance to shine across an entire card at one of Britain's premier racecourses.
Entries for the groundbreaking Goodwood meeting close at noon on Saturday. The most valuable race is the heycar-sponsored £15,000 fillies' sprint handicap.
Goodwood clerk of the course Ed Arkell said: "We are delighted to be able to offer six good-quality races and £65,000 of prize-money exclusively to apprentices, helping them to showcase their talent, alongside giving them the chance to improve and develop their race-riding skills.
"We hope this meeting will become an annual fixture and there will certainly be some stars of the future on show."
