Godolphin blow after unbeaten Group 1 winner Quorto suffers fatal injury
Unbeaten Group 1 winner Quorto, who had been absent since landing the National Stakes at the Curragh in 2018, suffered a fatal injury during routine work at Moulton Paddocks in Newmarket on Thursday.
The brilliant son of Dubawi won all three starts for Charlie Appleby at two, scoring on his debut over seven furlongs at Newmarket’s July course in June before returning to the same course the following month to take the Group 2 Superlative Stakes.
Quorto rounded off his juvenile campaign with a dominant display at the Curragh, where he accounted for subsequent Derby winner Anthony Van Dyck and was voted champion Irish two-year-old with an official rating of 121.

Quorto suffered an injury in March last year which ruled him out of the 2,000 Guineas - for which he was second favourite at the time - and eventually his three-year-old season, but it was hoped he would be able to return to the course this year.
Appleby said: “Quorto was a very talented colt who was absolutely brilliant when winning the National Stakes and gave us a great day over in Ireland. It's a great shame that we did not get to see him on the racecourse again and he will be sorely missed by all the team at Moulton Paddocks.”
