Gerald Mosse joins Europe team as Frankie Dettori misses Shergar Cup
Gerald Mosse is to join the European team in Saturday's Shergar Cup, stepping in for Frankie Dettori, who will be at Newmarket.
Dettori, a four-time winner of Ascot's unique racing event as captain of Europe and Rest of the World, is unable to take part this time due to commitments to ride three horses for his boss John Gosden.
Nick Smith, Ascot's director of racing and communications, said: "Gerald Mosse has been on standby for a while and he will now join the European team."
Mosse has an impressive record in the Shergar Cup, taking the Alistair Haggis Silver Saddle (awarded to the winningmost rider) in victories as captain of the European team in 2008 and 2013.
The Frenchman's team includes riders Andrasch Starke and Per-Anders Graberg.
Dettori's three rides for Gosden on Newmarket's card include exciting juvenile Pennywhistle in the german-thorougbhred Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes.
Having broken her maiden over course and distance, the daughter of Iffraaj is a 9-2 chance for the 7f event.
Ray Cochrane, Dettori's agent, said on Wednesday: "He will be riding at Newmarket. John runs three so he has to go there."
Dettori is also booked to ride Shambolic and Fennaan for Gosden.
