Tom Scudamore on the sidelines after suffering fractured wrist in Worcester fall

Tom Scudamore will be out of action for several weeks after fracturing his wrist in a fall at Worcester on Tuesday.

The King George-winning rider, 37, was travelling strongly aboard the David Pipe-trained Malangen when falling three out and missed his remaining rides at the meeting.

Scudamore said on Wednesday: "I've fractured my wrist and am waiting for some more scans. They've checked everything else and it seems fine. I don't know exactly how long I will be out for, but hopefully it should only be a few weeks.

"We will have to see how it goes, but I will keep in touch with Jerry Hill [chief medical adviser at the BHA], take all of his advice and make sure to keep fit."

It has been a bad week for Scudamore and those at Pipe's Pond House stables after Timeforben and Noel's Boy suffered fatal injuries at Newton Abbot on Monday.

"It's been a tough beginning of the week, hopefully it will start getting better," added Scudamore, who has ridden 26 winners this season. "Unfortunately it was a difficult day for everyone in, and associated with, the yard, but I'm sure they'll turn a corner and have a good season."

The regular rider of top-class chasers Vieux Lion Rouge and Thistlecrack, Scudamore remains upbeat following the injury and is already excited about the start of the jumps season.

He added: "I have plenty to be getting on with and a lot to look forward to. I've been riding a lot for Neil Mulholland and he has plenty of nice horses, and David [Pipe] too – so it's great to be part of two powerful yards. There's lots to look forward to from the Tizzards too.

"I'm in a decent position for when I get back fit and healthy and hopefully we can have another good year."
