Aidan O'Brien reveals one-time Derby favourite Luxembourg back in light exercise

Luxembourg has taken the first steps on the road to recovery after Aidan O'Brien revealed the colt, who spent the winter at the top of the Derby market, is back in work.

Luxembourg was as short as 7-4 for the Epsom Classic after finishing third to Coroebus in the 2,000 Guineas but was ruled out of the race by O'Brien a week later, after tests revealed the son of Camelot had sustained a muscular issue behind and a month to six weeks of box rest was required to help it heal.

The box rest has now been completed and O'Brien told the Racing Post: "Luxembourg is just back in and doing some slow, light exercise. That's where we are with him at the moment. We'll feel our way with him."

Luxembourg is a 16-1 shot for the Arc in early October and if he lines up at Longchamp then a clash with Sir Michael Stoute's Derby winner Desert Crown could be on the cards. Saturday's Epsom hero is now favourite across the board for the Arc and just 2-1 with Betfair and Paddy Power.

Luxembourg will be missing from O'Brien's Royal Ascot team next week but the Ballydoyle trainer is assembling a strong squad and reports Kyprios to be on course for a crack at the Gold Cup.

The Moyglare Stud four-year-old has progressed into a smart stayer this season and is 11-4 joint-favourite with BoyleSports alongside Trueshan to give O'Brien a record-extending eighth win in the meeting's showpiece.

O'Brien said: "All is well with Kyprios since Leopardstown. We were very happy with him in the Saval Beg and any trip we've tried him over so far he has got. He's progressing from run to run."

Point Lonsdale missed the Derby and the French equivalent at Chantilly last weekend and will not be at Royal Ascot either with O'Brien stating that last year's Futurity Stakes winner, who won four of his five outings as a two-year-old, is on "a little break".

Point Lonsdale was backed into 11-2 for the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket but faded into tenth having been prominent early and has not been seen since.

He was a general 14-1 shot for the St James's Palace Stakes, for which Coroebus is 2-5 favourite with Paddy Power.
