Lady Bowthorpe set to star in welcome return to Newmarket's Open Weekend

Fairytale Group 1 winner Lady Bowthorpe will be among the attractions at the 2021 Henry Cecil Open Weekend in Newmarket which will be staged this year on September 18 and 19.

William Jarvis agreed to parade his recent Nassau Stakes winner at Phantom House Stables on the Fordham Road as he joins other Newmarket trainers in opening his yard on Sunday.

Twenty-three stables in total, two more than in 2019, have agreed to open for the public with trainer Saeed bin Suroor set to allow entry to his stunning Godolphin Stables for the first time in four years.

Godolphin managing director Hugh Anderson said: "We will be opening Godolphin Stables this year and hopefully many people will come along just as they did last time. It's in a good location along the Bury Road where many other yards will be open, however we won't be opening up Moulton Paddocks this year."

Although the Covid-19 pandemic stopped crowds rolling in last year, the Open Weekend moved online and proved a big success, with the Virtual Open Day raising almost as much for charity (£48,000) as a usual year.

Opening their doors for the first time will be Simon and Ed Crisford, with their state-of-the-art Gainsborough Stables operation set to be popular with the public. Other trainers involved include Roger Varian, Patrick Owens, Richard Spencer, Phil McEntee, John Ryan, Tom Clover, William Knight, Rae Guest and Stuart Williams.

The charities being supported this year are Racing Welfare (80 per cent), the newly formed Newmarket Pony Academy (ten per cent) and the Yellow Brick Road Community Project (ten per cent).

The two-day event will be the culmination of the first ever National Racehorse Week which begins on September 12 and also includes open days at Malton and Epsom.

Racing Welfare's chief executive Dawn Goodfellow said: "Racing Welfare is honoured to once again be one of the chosen charities of the Henry Cecil Open Weekend. Previous funds raised from the weekend have gone towards the refurbishment of MacDonald Buchanan House in Newmarket into high-quality, safe accommodation for young people entering the racing industry.

"Any funds raised from the 2021 Henry Cecil Open Weekend will go towards the upkeep of this essential accommodation and the support of the 18 young tenants who live there, helping them to gain independent living skills and giving them a happy, healthy start in their racing careers. We are incredibly grateful to the Henry Cecil Open Weekend committee and to all those who donate to this fantastic weekend of racing entertainment."
