Nico de Boinville rode Altior in 21 of his 26 races and was the first person to sit on the gelding's back. Here, he pays a fond tribute

Corky Browne, who everybody knows, and Dan Saunders, Corky's right-hand man and now Clive Cox's head lad, deserve plenty of credit for breaking Altior in when he arrived at Seven Barrows and, like with any youngster, you never know what you're going to get.

He was very professional straight away and it was a case of working with him, rather than forcing him, but he was an extremely intelligent and confident horse who loved his work and loved being in training.
