Jockey Daniel Muscutt breaks bones in neck, back and ribs in Chelmsford fall
Jockey Daniel Muscutt has been left with a broken bone in his neck, several broken vertebrae and a broken rib after a sickening fall at Chelmsford on Thursday evening.
The jockey was riding Pico Boulevard in the novice stakes over a mile, but his mount appeared to clip heels and come down, throwing him from the saddle. Sadly, Pico Boulevard was fatally injured.
Muscutt, who was conscious and talking when leaving the racecourse, was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford where the extent of his injuries were revealed.
Andy Waitt, clerk of the course at Chelmsford, said on Friday: "Unfortunately, Dan Muscutt has broken a bone in his neck, three in his back and a rib.
"He's stable in hospital and will spend a couple more days in there for assessment, but they have no plans to operate on him."
He added: "It was a nasty-looking fall and our medical team did a great job."
Muscutt enjoyed a career highlight when partnering the Marco Botti-trained Fanciful Angel to victory in a valuable Meydan handicap in January 2017. He also gained two notable Listed wins aboard Fleur Forsyte and Permission later the same year.
