'I've had enough' - popular trainer Charlie Mann to retire after 28 years

Jump racing is set to lose one of its most colourful characters after Charlie Mann revealed on Tuesday he will retire from the training ranks next month.

The forthright Mann, who moved to Lambourn in 1979 and never left, was – in his words – a journeyman jockey who started training in 1993 after a neck injury ended his riding career.

With a licence, he enjoyed Grade 1 victories with his two best horses, Celibate and Air Force One, and saddled close to 700 winners.
