'It's ridiculous, crazy. I can't understand it' - York fixture move questioned

Several local trainers expressed disappointment on Friday over York's decision to race on Ayr Gold Cup day next year, a move which one labelled "ridiculous."

A self-funded fixture on the Knavesmire has been added to the programme in 2023 when it will clash with both the biggest Flat race of the season in Scotland and a long-established card at Catterick, just 43 miles away.

Among the Yorkshire trainers enjoying a traditional three days at the Gold Cup meeting was Michael Dods, a dual winner of the Silver Cup.
