'It's nothing too serious' - Mark Walsh to miss Fairyhouse after fall at Thurles

Mark Walsh will miss out on a host of big rides on Sunday having been stood down for six days following a fall at Thurles earlier this week.

The Grade 1-winning jockey, who also missed his mounts on Saturday, will not ride, among others, Hercule Du Seuil, Thedevilscoachman and Icare Allen.

Walsh suffered a nasty-looking fall when riding the JP McManus-owned Hands Of Gold in a two-mile maiden hurdle on Thursday. The 36-year-old spent a number of minutes on the ground, but did manage to walk back to an ambulance. He was later stood down from his one remaining ride.

McManus's racing manager, Frank Berry, said on Saturday. "Mark has been stood down for six days. He was down to have a number of rides for us today, and he's been replaced on those."

Jennifer Pugh, senior officer with the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board, said: "It's nothing too serious, and it's imagined that he'll be back later next week."

Walsh had been booked for six rides on Fairyhouse's Saturday card, which included Cayd Boy, Benaud and the Gordon Elliott-trained Coqolino.

On Sunday, Luke Dempsey will ride the Willie Mullins-trained Hercule Du Seuil in the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle (1.25), as well as taking the reins on Gavin Cromwell's Spades are Trumps in the Porterstown Handicap Chase (12.55). Dempsey will also ride Joseph O'Brien's Common Practice in the Grade 3 Juvenile Hurdle (12.25).

Champion jockey Paul Townend will ride Mullins' Icare Allen for the first time in the Baroneracing.com Handicap Hurdle (3.05), while Simon Torrens will mount Noel Meade's Thedevilscoachman in the Grade 1 Drinmore Novice Chase (1.55).

The Gordon Elliott-trained Sire Du Berlais, who runs in the Grade 1 Hatton's Grace Hurdle (2.30), will be partnered by Davy Russell for the first time since 2018.

Walsh is eighth in the Irish jump jockey standings for this season, having ridden 25 winners and collecting €390,000 in prize-money.
