William Buick times it to perfection as Crown Walk lands Prix Chloe
William Buick was at his brilliant best at Chantilly on Tuesday as he timed his ride on Crown Walk to perfection to win the Group 3 Prix Chloe from the fast-finishing My Sister Nat by a nose.
Trained by Alex Pantall, Crown Walk was last seen when finishing second over a mile to Mission Impassible in the Group 2 Prix de Sandringham.
"She was a bit unlucky last time and probably deserved to finish in front but she's a filly with a lot of quality, somewhat in the image of [her sire] Dubawi," said Pantall.
"She is very calm and easy to deal with and has a very good mind. We wanted to see how she got on over 1,800 metres [a mile and a furlong] before determining her programme. She might get a fraction further, though not much."
The result will embolden Jean-Claude Rouget in the build-up to Mission Impassible's next race, with the filly likely to appear among Wednesday's entries for the Prix Rothschild.
But the trainer is at a loss to explain the poor performance of Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner Olmedo in Sunday's Prix Jean Prat.
He told the Equidia racing channel that the Declaration Of War colt – who trailed in last of the seven runners behind Intellogent – will undergo "a battery of tests" over the next few days.
