Prix de Saint-Georges: trainer views on the Group 3 opener over five furlongs
Prix de Saint-Georges (Group 3) | 5f | 3yo+ | SSR
Sestilio Jet is back to defend his title won last year under Frankie Dettori, but his preparation has been quite markedly different.
Trainer Andrea Marcailis had managed to get three runs into Sestilio Jet prior to taking this Group 3 in 2019, but the coronavirus pandemic and shutdown of French racing means he will be making his seasonal comeback, and could well need the run.
Should Sestilio Jet fail to repeat his exploits of last year, the likes of We Go, Gold Vibe and Duhail could be poised to take the prize instead.
What they say
Pia Brandt, trainer of Tour To Paris
He was in Dubai during the winter and he did okay. He hasn't run well at Longchamp the last day but hopefully he could improve over a different trip. He is in good form and we look forward to seeing how he runs.
Fabrice Chappet, trainer of Ken Colt
He did run a good race in this last year and he's in good form for this race. He will like the ground.
Alex Pantall, trainer of We Go, Red Torch and Forza Capitano
The trip might be a bit sharp for We Go but he has been in good form since his win at Chantilly. Forza Capitano will probably need the run as he progressed with racing through last season. I think he is an interesting horse going forward and should be up to winning at least a Listed race this year. Red Torch is in good form and his training has gone well. The race he won at Fontainebleau was stakes level in all but name.
Andrea Marcailis, trainer of Sestilio Jet
Last year when he won the Saint-Georges I was able to give him an easy lead-up run in a Listed race. This year it's the same for everyone and there are a lot of horses who haven't run for seven or eight months. He is well but I am sure he will need the run.
