There are no horses trained outside Germany in the 14-runner line-up for the country's premier Classic but British-based riders Andrea Atzeni and Robert Havlin make the trip.

Atzeni rides Jimmu for Henk Grewe, one of the rising stars of the home training ranks.

Jimmu has decent form with the two likely favourites, Royal Youmzain and Weltstar, who represents last year's winning trainer Markus Klug and who finished four and a half lengths in front of Atzeni's mount in the Group 2 Oppenheim Union Rennen at Cologne.

Havlin will be aboard the Jens Hirschberger-trained Sweet Man, who finished ninth in that race.

The colt they arguably all have to beat is Royal Youmzain, who progressed readily from his half-length defeat of Jimmu in Munich to an impressive success in the Ittlingen Derby Trial at Baden-Baden in Early June.

"I am very happy with him and he has improved from race to race," said trainer Andreas Wohler. "He is in great shape. Last time it was a very slowly run race and we dropped him in. He relaxed well and showed a nice turn of foot but it will all depend on the pace."

Wohler saddles four and singled out Chimney Rock – the lowest-rated horse in the field according to the German handicapper – as having the potential to finish in the first five.

Jean-Pierre Carvalho will have two runners and believes both Salve Del Rio and Guiri – who respectively finished third to Weltstar and Royal Youmzain on their last outings – have chances of finishing in the money.

"They are both very consistent and they should stay 2,400 metres without trouble," said Carvalho. "They might need a little bit of luck to beat the two favourites. Salve Del Rio is one of the more interesting outsiders and could surprise a few of them."
