'If he can turn up at 80 per cent of his form he'll take all the beating'
The best Cheltenham Festival quotes from the last week . . .
Age is age is age but he has fewer miles on the clock than any other ten-year-old challenging for this race and that has to count for something, doesn't it? Do Minella Indo and A Plus Tard look better this year than last? Does Al Boum look worse? I think no to both, so there's hope.
Patrick Mullins is positive on the chances of Al Boum Photo bouncing back from last year's third place to land a remarkable Gold Cup treble

The most important thing with him is to be super, super fresh. He puts so much into his runs it just empties the tank. The better the ground, the better his chance. He'd win because we had a dry spell and they go fast, and maybe Shishkin underperforms a pound or two and maybe Energumene had a hard race at Ascot.
Dan Skelton is well aware of the huge challenge facing Nube Negra in the Champion Chase, but that did not hinder him from talking up the chance of his Shloer Chase winner

He's got very ground dependant as he's got older. If you go back to his form on better ground, like his third in a Gold Cup, there's no reason why he couldn't run well in an Ultima. Off 155 he could be very competitive.

If the ground is good, around that place he's just different. He's getting older, and to say that he is what he was in his pomp is probably hard. If he can turn up at 80 per cent of the form he showed in winning the Cross Country before, he'll take all the beating.
Gordon Elliott is confident Tiger Roll can end his legendary career on another euphoric high by winning a fourth Cross Country

Looking at it quickly, the best handicapped of mine is Death Duty in the Ultima. Everything else seems to have 4-6lb more, but I understand the handicapper has his job to do.
A busy Elliott also gave his quick reaction to the handicap weights reveal, and his nominee Death Duty is now vying Does He Know for favouritism in the Ultima

I know on paper the Ultima looks easier, but even if Frodon was to run he'd be carrying a lot of weight regardless. The owners are keen to run in the Gold Cup and that's what we'll go for.

The Irish horses are all talented but some have been beaten and we haven't. He should be suited by better ground. I'm not sure we'll beat them but they'll have a race from the last.

Thyme Hill ran well at Ascot and he goes there fresh. He's doing well and has the form in the book. It looks open and he's faced many of them before. He should have every chance.

I was pleased with Jonbon – his whole demeanour and behaviour. If he'd have got himself wound up, I'd have been perfectly happy to take him home but he strode out well and was moving beautifully.
Nicky Henderson was satisfied with the workout of Jonbon, after he took and him and fellow leading Supreme candidate Constitution Hill for a racecourse gallop at Kempton on Tuesday

I'd say out of all of them Riviere D'Etel is the one I'm most looking forward to riding. It's a fairly hot contest but she's been very good all season and she's going to love coming up that hill.
