Temperatures are forecast to soar this weekend but officials at Newmarket are confident no issues will arise on Saturday afternoon.

Clerk of the course Michael Prosser said: "We are well equipped to manage any extreme weather conditions that may arise, this weekend or any other, as every measure has been taken with the safety and welfare of horses paramount as always.

"I do not foresee any problems this weekend as the forecast I have states it will be around 28C and we were very warm for around three months last season."

Prosser added: "As usual we will have water butts positioned on the course for when the horses pull up after their races. There will also be butts in the winner's circle and around the parade ring in case there is any problem before horses go out to race.

"We have no races over any extreme distances on Saturday as the longest on the card is over a mile and a half, so there won't be any issues on that front and there is no reason for any cause for concern as things stand."

Elsewhere on Saturday, Windsor and York could also experience temperatures around the 30C mark, with slightly cooler conditions at Chester and at Newcastle for the Northumberland Plate.

The Curragh hosts the Irish Derby and racegoers can expect a warm day at around 24C.

Hot weather is forecast at Doncaster and Lingfield but it should have cooled down by the start of their evening meetings.
