Horse movements fall sharply since Brexit as sport hopes for political solution

Figures for racehorse and bloodstock movements between Britain and the European Union have dropped steeply this year due to the effect of Brexit, as well as Covid-19, on the industry.

Progress towards a solution to the extra costs and red tape involved in horse transport since the United Kingdom left the European Union remains slow, but there has been some encouragement with the issue being discussed at the highest levels in Europe.

Data for January to May 2021 compared to the same period in 2019 shows that British-trained runners abroad were down by 46 per cent.
