He's just too good: Too Darn Hot 12-1 for the Guineas after maiden win

Impeccably bred colt Too Darn Hot lived up to his name with a scorching debut at Sandown that put him in the classic picture for 2019.

He's a brother to a Group 3 and a Listed winner, out of Yorkshire Oaks and Dubai Sheema Classic winner Dar Re Mi.

And the two-year-old, owned and bred by Lord Lloyd Webber, looked highly talented himself as he bounded up the hill by seven lengths under Frankie Dettori in a five-runner maiden.

The performance earned Too Darn Hot a 12-1 quote for the Qipco 2,000 Guineas from Paddy Power, who rate him a 14-1 chance for the Investec Derby.

Trainer John Gosden said on Racing UK: "He's a charming horse, he's come along very nicely. There was a nice ease in the ground and he enjoyed it.

"He'll have learned a lot and I was very pleased with him."

He's entered in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster but Gosden said: "He'll go for a novice next and then we'll see from there. He's a grand colt and hopefully he's got a good future."

Dettori added: "He hit a couple of green spots but when I asked him to quicken, on ground that is quite tiring, he put himself quite a long distance from the rest.

"Any horse who wins by seven lengths first time, you've got to take notice."

Rowland Ward was second with Calculation, the first foal out of Gold Cup winner Estimate, staying on for third.

Five minutes earlier Centroid, a three-year-old half-brother to Gosden's Arc winner Enable, made a winning debut at Leopardstown.

Jockey Declan McDonogh said on ATR: "He’s a grand horse and is bred in the purple. He did it nicely and the ground is probably as quick as he wants it.

"I would expect some more improvement when he gets a bit more ease in the ground and going up another couple of furlongs. He extended well and when I got a couple of cracks into him he picked up well, you couldn’t knock him."
