Top jockey Tom Marquand celebrated a memorable Classic breakthrough aboard Galileo Chrome in last year’s St Leger and believes his mount Youth Spirit is a “genuine lively outsider” in Saturday’s Cazoo-sponsored race.

Marquand teamed up with Joseph O’Brien for a neck success over Berkshire Rocco 12 months ago and it is the runner-up's trainer Andrew Balding who he combines with this weekend aboard the Chester Vase winner.

The Ahmad Al Shaikh-owned Youth Spirit finished a well-beaten eighth in the Derby at Epsom but recent keeping-on efforts when fourth in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood and third in the Great Voltigeur at York give Marquand hope regarding the step up in trip to 1m6½f.
