'He looks the part' - why the 2.50 at Doncaster is a must-watch race

Starman, Equilateral, Moss Gill and Nahaarr are among the notable names to have won a sprint novice at Doncaster as three-year-olds in the past five seasons and two first-time-out winners clash in a similar event at 2.50 on Friday. Chiellini, another interesting first-time-out winner, was declared a non-runner on Friday. We assess their chances in what promises to be an informative contest . . .

Rizg
Spotlight comment
Beat a useful sort in cosy style to make a winning debut at Yarmouth (6f, good to firm) last August; in top hands and has considerable potential.
What the trainer said
Roger Varian: "He's a really nice colt. He had a little hiccup after his novice win but nothing too serious. I'll start him in a novice under a penalty and hopefully he can justify a Commonwealth Cup trial after that. He looks the part, is pleasing us in his work and has a great pedigree."

Lethal Nymph
Spotlight comment
Half-brother to four winners for these connections, including last year's Victoria Cup winner River Nymph, and he was a comfortable winner on his recent debut at Wolverhampton (6f, AW; 2-1); he's a likeable prospect and could play another leading role under a 5lb penalty.
What the trainer said
Clive Cox: "He had a bad splint at two and I was chuffed he won at Wolverhampton on his belated debut. Trevor Fox has owned and bred the family, so it's wonderful to see the success continuing. He'll go for a novice with a penalty and six or seven furlongs is the way the family go. River Nymph and Little Palaver have been the best and I can see this fella following them."

Spotlight verdict
This could be between the two previous winners, who are all 1-1 and look to have bright futures. Rizg did it cosily on his sole two-year-old start at Yarmouth and is preferred to Lethal Nymph, who impressed at Wolverhampton recently.
