'He looked a natural' - last week's horses to follow including Triumph contender
With our expert race readers watching – and writing a descriptive in-running comment for – every horse who runs in Britain and Ireland, there are three different categories used to denote those who are most appealing with the future in mind.
Members' Club Ultimate subscribers can add the names of the horses mentioned to their Racing Post Horse Tracker and will then receive email alerts when they are entered or declared again.
On their next start, the horses will be flagged in Signposts, which can be found in the Racing Post newspaper or online as part of Members' Club on raceday.
Non-members can sign up here to get the tracker, race replays and in-depth race analysis, as well as exclusive content from our team of tipsters and writers.
Eyecatcher
Prince Nabeel
Sixth, Kempton, December 7
Down in distance, he was never able to land a blow but performed much better on his second start for this trainer. He appears more than capable of winning a handicap in due course.
Aurora Dawn
Sixth, Kempton, December 7
A £25,000 half-sister to 7f all-weather winner How Impressive, was slowly away and found herself poorly positioned as a result. She kept on steadily in the straight, in a race not run to suit, and she will know more with this behind her.
Raffles Wonder
Fourth, Newcastle, December 8
From the family of Rouge Vif and going well when falling in an Irish point when last seen in May, he very much caught the eye. His rider was at pains to settle him in rear but the slow early gallop didn't help and his mount never appeared to drop the bridle. He looks capable of much better and the run caught the attention of the raceday stewards.
Did well in the circumstances
Secretary
First, Chelmsford, December 8
Overcame a tough trip, improving in her first-time blinkers, up in trip after two months off. She might cope with a rise in the weights.
Undersupervision
Third, Cheltenham, December 9
Isn't the slickest of jumpers but he's less exposed than most in these events and stayed on to good effect on his reappearance, suggesting marathon trips could suit him this season.
Delta Romeo
Fifth, Dundalk, December 9
Has shown improved form since being dropped in the trip, having previously shown little in races over middle-distances, and had his path blocked a couple of times on this occasion.
Promising
Secret Spy
Fourth, Dundalk, December 9
Is out of a 6f winner but is a half-brother to horses who have won over 1m2f, 1m4f and over jumps. He looked in need of further on this debut run, staying on well.
Blood Destiny
Winner, Cork, December 11
A three-year-old by No Risk At All making his first start since joining Willie Mullins, produced a smart round of jumping on his way to earning a quote of 14-1 (from 33) with BoyleSports for the Triumph Hurdle. He showed the benefit of his sole hurdles start at Auteuil in April, looking a natural in attacking his obstacles, and won with something up his sleeve. He will be tested far more in Graded company than he was here, with the second, third and fourth holding ratings of 68, 70 and 71 on the Flat. More improvement is needed to become a genuine Triumph contender but he beat what was put in front of him readily.
Teagarden Jazz
Third, Cork, December 11
Was well positioned and backed up a reasonable hurdling debut at Navan last month. She could stay a little further in time and just wasn't as classy as the promising winner.
