Gordon Elliott: 'Tiger Roll fine after Aintree and could go to Navan next'

Gordon Elliott broke the record for the amount of winners trained at one meeting on Saturday when he bagged seven of the eight races on offer at Navan, but admitted a mistake was made on the day by running Tiger Roll at Aintree.
The dual Grand National winner was pulled up on his return in the Grade 2 Many Clouds Chase, with Elliott later revealing he shouldn't have run the 11-year-old given conditions came up testing on the day.
Speaking at Punchestown on Sunday, Elliott said: "Tiger Roll is absolutely fine this morning. In hindsight, we probably shouldn't have run him on that ground. It came up very testing and it wasn't ideal for him on his return.
"I'd say if I had been over at Aintree myself he wouldn't have run, but the main thing is he's absolutely fine and we'll get him home now and see where we are."
The Boyne Hurdle at Navan in February, a race Tiger Roll used as a stepping stone towards last season's Cross Country triumph, remains the most likely port of call without anything being set in stone.
Elliott said: "I'd say that [the Boyne Hurdle] could be the plan and then maybe on to the Cross Country from there."
Tiger Roll is a best-priced 7-1 chance to win the Cross Country Chase in March and record a remarkable sixth Cheltenham Festival success, while he is 33-1 to emulate Red Rum by winning the Grand National for a third time.
