Going update: good, good to soft in places

The going at Goodwood for day four of the festival has changed to good, good to soft in places (from good to soft, good in places) this morning despite rain overnight.

3.6mm of rain hit the course in the early hours of the morning, but winds have continued to allow the course to dry from heavy rain on Monday.

Rails in the top and bottom bend have been dropped to allow for fresh ground, following a cutaway on the home stretch on Thursday.

Clerk of the course Ed Arkell said: "We had a lovely drying day yesterday, and 3.6mm of rain overnight so I've called it good, good to soft in places today. It should be very windy this morning and start to drop off about lunchtime and there will be some scattered showers about but only about one or two millimetres, nothing much more than that.

"The breeze today should offset any of those showers and anything we do get will come rattling through with the wind behind it so that shouldn't be too bad.

"The rail on the bottom bend and the top bend has come down so there's six yards wide of fresh ground on the bottom bend and three yards on the top bend."
